Staff Accountant

HOUSTON, TX

General Description

The Staff Accountant is responsible for:          

  • Recording and depositing all manual deposits utilizing the remote scanner in a timely fashion
  • Preparing monthly bank reconciliations for all cash accounts by the 10th of each month
  • Reconciling transactions within the Accounting and Fundraising departments (Blackbaud Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge) at least quarterly
  • Preparing a weekly cash forecast for use in planning timely bill payments
  • Recording journal entries and completing account reconciliations as needed for tracking the company’s property management activities
  • Updating the fixed asset ledger and recording monthly depreciation journal entries
  • Preparing lead sheets for the annual external audit of the company’s records and supplying required supporting documentation to complete compliance testing
  • Support the Controller with credit card processing and ongoing training of credit card holders on receipt transmittal processes. Correct coding as necessary to align with the appropriate budget
  • Will be required to interact with students and perform academic duties in support of the mission. May be asked to sub and/or teach one class
  • Required to attend company-wide training and certain Orthodox Christian liturgical feasts. Encouraged to attend daily morning prayer; when feasible

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics or related business field.  Basic expertise with Excel.  A willingness to learn and develop technical software skills. Good communication skills and a proactive customer service approach to responding to issues raised by staff, families and vendors. Detail oriented, discrete with confidential information, and motivation to seek cost-effective approaches.

Reports To: VP Finance (CFO)

Salary Classification: Full-time, non-exempt, twelve months

Hours Per Week: 40 (part time opportunities may also be available)
