Academic Dean: Description and Responsibilities

The Academic Dean is responsible to:

Work with the Head of School to oversee Key areas of Academics and Student Life in K-12

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop K-12 faculty.
  • Review and provide feedback on faculty syllabi and online gradebooks
  • Perform annual faculty class observations and follow-up meetings.
  • Assist Head of School in Faculty End of Year Review meetings.
  • Maintain a healthy school culture in terms of standards and discipline.
  • Identify training and professional development needs for faculty.
  • Represent TSCS mission and values to faculty, students, and parents.
  • Schedule and attend parent meetings as faculty supervisor when necessary.
  • Advise faculty in areas of academic or behavioral concern for K-12 students.
  • Provide supervisory support for faculty and House Heads in matters of Student Discipline.
  • Teach at least 2 K-12 classes.
  • Plan and lead the Upper School Retreat.
  • Take point in leading House Head team to plan one 3-12th grade Field Day per semester.
  • Take point in leading House Head team to plan 5-6th grade Etiquette Ball and Spring Dance.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with experience in management, child development, and/or K-12 education. Advanced degree(s) and Classical education background preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Flexible, organized, and able to multitask and prioritize. Creative and strategic problem-solving abilities. Present a calm and knowledgeable face to TSCS families and faculty under supervision.

Reports To: Head of School

Salary Classification: Full-time, non-exempt, twelve months
